REVIEW: VOCES AKA DON’T LISTEN (2020)
by Elena Anele (*)
VOCES is the first movie by Ángel Gómez which was released after the lockdown in theaters in Spain. It was not a blockbuster, but it made some money – take into consideration that no big movies where premiered or shown then. The screenplay is based on an original idea by the director himself and Víctor Gado and was written together with Santiago Díaz and Juan Moreno.
It tells the story of Daniel and Sara who have a 9-year-old son called Eric. They just move to a new home to restore it and sell it, as that is their way of living, but it seems there is something under the house. Eric is the first one to notice the odd noises behind each door and some paranormal activity starts to take place.
Sounds good but it isn’t. It is a mix-up of iconic features such as Hereditary, Insidious, House Hill… with no original elements at all. It is boring and, in some cases,, it appears to be a parody of cult horror classics.
It is now available on Netflix if you are interested.
