PREVIEW: PACO PLAZA’S EYE FOR AN EYE AKA QUIEN A HIERRO MATA

QUIEN A HIERRO MATA is latest movie directed by Paco Plaza (REC, VERONICA), and written by Juan Galiñanes and Jorge Guerricaechevarría (Day of the Beast, Perdita Durango). It is also a narrative of betrayal, drugs, family dramas and violence.
It tells the story of Mario (Luis Tosar) is a nurse who is about to have a child and works in a residence. One day Antonio, a drug dealer whose illness is making him totally dependent, has just been released from jail and goes there to pass his last days, instead of going home with his children. When their paths cross, everyone chooses the same exit: revenge. We will discover Mario hides a secret, related to Antonio in a way, that Antonio’s children are against his will and many other mysteries around them.
What I liked the most apart from the construction of the perfect coral story and how it fills all gaps at the correct pace, is that there are some gestures to cult kinki exploitation movies. For example, the love for Eloy de la Iglesia is there, especially in the tribute to Navajeros final scene – I do not want to tell more… not spoilers- and El pico jail shots.
It will be premiered in Spain on August 30 and I hope you all get to see it as soon as possible. This is not the horror movie we are used to if we talk about Plaza’s cinema, but it is a thriller full of terror, surprises and action.
