REVIEW: JP SIMON’S CTHULHU MANSION

by Elena Anele (*)

CTHULHU MANSION is a movie made by JP Simon in 1992 based on H. P. Lovecraft’s universe.

It tells the story of a magician in possession of a hidden secret – book- and his daughter who are taken hostage when they are leaving the show they work for by a band of criminals who have just killed two men. They are taken to the old man’s isolated mansion. There they try to hide out from the police. When the captors refuse to listen to the magician’s dire warning to release him unharmed, the mansion slowly releases its nightmare of horrors on the unsuspecting invaders.

It was co-produced by Spain and UK, shot in Madrid, and premiered for New Year’s Eve in Madrid to become a Xmas blockbuster.

When we talk about JP Simon entertaining always comes to my mind… this is not the case. It is a non–Lovecraft related movie with some kinky cinema traces and a no sense screenplay that is far from the fun brought on PIECES or SLUGS.

No sense, no fear, no interest… after some intense research on the Internet for it… It seems not to be available on any VOD platform and I found a DVD release that appears to be a bootleg. Any price won’t be worth it!
