REVIEW: HOGAR AKA THE OCCUPANT (2020)

By Elena Anele (*)

Hogar aka The Occupant is a Netflix Spain movie written and directed by Pastor brothers (CARRIERS) in 2020.

It is starred by two of the most popular actors in Spain nowadays: Mario Casas and Javier Gutierrez together with Bruna Cusí and Ruth Díaz.

It tells the story of an important executive whose life changes completely when he lost his job. Now he must face a life with no luxury and a family he seems no to care of. He is obsessed with his former house- the metaphor of all he misses- and he starts stalking his new owner.

I think Javier Gutierrez does a great job but there is something in the pace of the narrative which makes it a pain. Also, Mario Casas role and acting do not help it be more interesting for the viewer.

It brings some alluring social topics that are the latest cutting edge in the country but it deflates as we are reaching the end.
